poesy Analysis Jeannine Yeager ENG125: Introduction to Literature Julie Pal-Agrawal March 12, 2012 Poetry Analysis of ORANGES The rime Oranges by Gary Soto is a poem somewhat first love, five-year- elderly love. Most of Gary Sotos poetry defines living in the uncouth areas of Central California and being Mexican-American. The struggles and experiences of the farm detention as they travel from farm to farm searching for last and non having enduring relationships because of all the moving around, these themes are all everywhere Mr. Sotos work. The poem Oranges shows the impact of this life style. When the girlish existence who is narrating the poem first takes his girlfriend for a walk and they go to a put in, the girl picks out a umber that cost twice as much as the young exoneratearm has. Since he has two oranges in his pocket, he offers one of them to the submit owner as partial payment. The store owner, being an old lady, understands that the boy does not have enough money and he is trying to impress the girl so she accepts the orange as payment for the chocolate. Soto uses figurative language when the boy describes himself peeling the sec orange as though he is holding muster out in his hands because of the brightness of the orange color in the grey light of the December day.

Also, when he describes the fog prison-breaking like old coats between the trees this tells the reader that it is a cold-blooded and dreary winter day but the boy doesnt seem to notice the cold and dreariness because his focus is on the girl and their walk together. The form of the poem was the first trim that attracted me to the poem because it flowed very well and it was a narrative in rhythmic form! . I enjoyed the way that Mr. Soto described the weather and the attach girl that he first held hands with and the way the sugarcoat was tiered in the store. Also, the rhythm flowed nicely throughout the entire poem. Poetry that rhymes and flows easily holds my attention more than poetry that doesnt rhyme.
